Helsinkis Sehenswürdigkeiten / Helsinki Sights

Helsinki bietet ohne Zweifel einiges Interessantes und Sehenswertes, dieser Post soll den Sehenswürdigkeiten dieser Stadt gewidmet sein.
Da Helsinki - und vor allem die Innenstadt - nicht sehr groß ist, kann man die meisten Sehenswürdigkeiten zu Fuß erledigen. Wir haben uns für den Marktplatz als Beginn unserer Tour entschlossen. Die Markthalle ist sehr gepflegt und schön, allerdings bekommt man draußen am Platz einen besseren Eindruck vom Markttreiben. Gleich in der Nähe liegen die Uspenski-Kathedrale, eine orthodoxe Kirche, und der Dom Helsinkis. Letzterer ist am Senatsplatz gelegen, am Hauptplatz der Stadt, von dem aus auch die Verwaltung stattfindet. Für mich sehr einladend ist der Esplanadenpark, der von zwei schönen Straßen umrahmt wird. An dessen Ende liegt auch das Schwedische Theater, ein sehr zentrales Gebäude der Stadt. An der Querstraße zu den Esplanaden, der Mannerheimintie, liegen das Kiasma Museum, das Musikzentrum und die Finlandia Halle, die wir - teilweise durch Öffnungdzeiten bedingt - nur von außen besichtigt haben. Ein etwas weiterer Fußweg führt zum Sibelius Monument im gleichnamigen Park, dessen Stahlkonstruktion sehr außergewöhnlich ist.
DAS Highlight der Stadt - zumindest für mich - ist die Felsenkirche. Für diese wurde ein Loch in einen Felsen gesprengt, in dem jetzt die Kirche liegt. Was an diesem beeindruckenden Ort leider stört sind die lauten Touristen.

Auch gut um einen ersten Eindruck der Stadt zu gewinnen, ist eine Rundfahrt mit der Straßenbahnlinie 3T (wechselt bei der Hälfte der Runde den Namen zu "3B", was aber für den Fahrgast keinen Unterschied bedeutet). Diese führt unter anderem am Olympiastadion und am Vergnügungspark vorbei.
Was hier wie in einem Reiseführer klingt ist sehr interessant und abwechslungsreich. Die Eindrücke von dieser Stadt, die sich nicht wie aus einem Buch lesen, werden auch noch beschrieben, versprochen... Einfach öfters hier vorbeischauen, um keinen Post zu verpassen ;)

Finlandia

In Helsinki, you can find many interesting sights, this Post is dedicated to them.
Since Helsinki, an especially the inner city, is not very big, you can visit most of the sights by foot. We chose the Marketplace for the beginning of our tour. The hall is very beautiful and neat but you get a better impression of the activities on the market outside. Just next to this place, there are the Uspenski-Cathedral, an orthodox church, and the Dome of Helsinki. The latter is situated at the Senaatintori, the main square of the city, where the administration is located too. What I really liked was the Esplanadi-Park, which is framed by two nice streets. At the end of this park, there is the Swedish Theatre, which is a very central building in Helsinki. On a cross-road to the Esplanadi, the Mannerheimintie, there are the Kiasma Museum, the Music Centre and the Finlandia Hall, which we visited, partly due to the opening hours, only from outside. A longer walkway leads you to the Sibelius Monument, which is situated in the park of the same name. The steel constructions of it are very extraordinary and impressive.

THE highlight of the city is - at least for me - the Church in the Rock. They blasted a hole into the rock in which the church is now situated. The only thing that is not nice on this place are the loud tourists.
What can also be recommended to get a first impression of the city is a ride on tramline 3T (changes it's name into 3B in the middle of the tour, but that doesn't bother the guests). This leads you past the Olympic Stadium and the leisure park.
